Somewhere around third grade, children make a shift from learning to read to reading to learn. However, not everyone is able to make this transition. In December 2023, a policy brief found that 60% of children in California can't read by third grade. After conducting research to find out the source of this terrible issue (see on our website), one of us (Maria Wodarz) has found correlations between school performance and socio-economic factors in all of the US states, including California.

Believing that everyone deserves a shot at an education, we started the nonprofit called "Pages of Progress: Children's Literacy Club Inc." With this nonprofit, we strive to provide children with more access to books as well as opportunities to win prizes in exchange for book reports and summaries. We are setting up little book shelves and mini libraries filled with free books to read and exchange among children in order to provide easy acess for reading materials and recources. We also provide opportunities for children to submit book reports in exchange for cash prizes, helping them get started with their reading journey and motivate them to engage with the books they receive.
